Wolkin/CounterWolkin #2

Welcome to the latest installment of Wolkin/CounterWolkin, in which I allow the two polar opposites of my fractured personality to discuss the latest comics. Let’s get it going!

David: So this was a pretty great two weeks of comics for me. What about you?

Wolkin: Machete don’t text.

David: Did you even read any comics?

Wolkin: Machete don’t read.

David: Unsurprisingly, it looks like the task of driving this discussion forward is going to be on me again. I want to open things up by talking about what was easily my favorite issue this week, Daytripper #10. I’ve read every issue of this series, and I’ve found the story of Bras’s life and the infinite possibilities for how he could live it to be incredibly moving. From the start, it was infused with the so-called “magical realism” of the South American literary tradition, and it’s a simply wonderful meditation on the meaning of life, love, family and friendship.

Wolkin/CounterWolkin

Many people aren’t willing to admit it, but we all have that Frosted Mini Wheat aspect to our identities, the yin and the yang, Jekyll and Hyde and so forth. I’m actually pretty in touch with this part of myself.  I have a sort of David vs. Wolkin thing going on. I think of my David side as the thoughtful, intelligent, critical thinker, and Wolkin? Well, he’s the guy who thinks Steven Seagal is really awesome, without a hint of irony.

The only thing they agree on is Keith David, which is the only thing that everyone agrees on.

Now that you have the context, it is with great excitement that I present to you a new feature entitled “Wolkin/CounterWolkin,”  in which David and Wolkin will engage in dialogue with one another about the latest comics!!!
